On March 23 from 4-5 p.m. I will be presenting at UTD. My talk "Chess is Now for Children: Changes Over the Past 40 Years" is part of a year-long series of 40 events (or more) created to mark UT Dallas' fourth decade as a UT System institution. My talk will address the changing demographics of chess during the past four decades, from its beginning as a game for adults to a game now dominated by children.
I will give special emphasis to the role the University has played in the field of chess in education. Presentation will be on the fourth floor of the McDermott Library (McDermott Suite, MC 4.404).
For those of you following my lesson plans with the Strickland MS after-school chess club: On Tuesday the 9th only three children (2 boys, 1 girl) showed up so we played bughouse and practiced for the Talent Show. March 16 will be Spring Break, and March 23 I am speaking at UTD. So my next lesson with the middle schoolers will be March 30.
