Halkidiki, Greece
The 2006 World School Championship took place April 26-May 2 2006 in Halkidiki, Greece, as part of the 2nd Halkidiki Games Festival. This was the second consecutive year that Greece has hosted the event. The tournament was a huge success, attracting the participation of 269 boys and girls from 24 countries.

The championship was organized by Theodoros Tsorbatzoglou, the Galaxis Chess Club, the Greek Chess Federation and the International School Chess Union (ISCU) under the aegis of FIDE. The gold champions were Lim De Li Derek from Singapore in the Under-7 category, Taminsyah Aston of Indonesia Under-9, Emiroglu Cankut of Turkey Under-11, Rahimov Rahmatjon of Uzbekistan Under-13, and Chirila Ioan Cristian from Romania Under 15. A strong international tournament was held at the same time with 86 players from 16 countries. The winner was GM Ionnis Nikolaidis of Greece with 7/9. IM Itkis Boris of Romania and IM Shartvaladze Nikoloz of Georgia came 2nd-3rd. The MonRoi system was implemented on the top board of every section and proved to be a big hit once again. Mr. Tsorbatzoglou is one of the most successful scholastic chess organizers in the world. He said, “The MonRoi system will soon replace all systems for live broadcasting, especially in youth and school tournaments. Both adults and kids adapt to it easily and everyone loves it.” FIDE International Arbiter Sava Kizova presented the 1st prize of a brand new Personal Chess Manager to young Lim De Li Derek for his victory. Ms. Kizova is certainly very familiar with the MonRoi system by now, having previously worked with it at the 2005 World Championship for Boys and Girls Under 20 in Istanbul, Turkey; the 81st Hastings Chess Congress in England. The 2006 World School Championship was an impressive event from start to finish. At the closing ceremony Mr. Tsorbatzoglu presented Gerry Walsh, President of the English Chess Federation with a superb illustrated guide to the major achievements of Ancient Greek civilization, a society which exemplified the ideals of democracy and the rule of law, developed harmonized and beautiful forms of art and temple architecture, and offered profound philosophical insights into the human condition which are still influential today. MonRoi wishes to congratulate all the participants and winners.
